Colchester VT Things to do

Lake in Colchester Vermont

Colchester boaters enjoy the Bay Harbor Marina (under new ownership in early 2013, with major renovations and upgrades planned) and the Moorings Marina (offering extensive amenities and a great location).

Options for outdoor recreation abounds, and you’ll find several mentioned on the Parks and Rec page of the Town’s website – a great resource for the outdoor enthusiast.

The Causeway Bike Path offers 12.5 miles of paved and graveled surfaces including across the old railroad bridge that crosses the lake from Colchester to South Hero. Beautiful views of the Adirondack Mountains of New York make this an enjoyable jaunt. You’ll find other of VT’s paths connected, making a longer ride an easy transition. Local Motion’s website has a great way to find trails for all of your biking adventures.

At Bayside Park, you’ll find 22 acres to play on. A picnic pavilion, playground skate park, swimming beach, shuffleboard courts, a Senior Center, tennis courts, basketball court, sand volleyball, baseball filed and lighted softball field (with restroom and a beach-side bathhouse), make the Bayside one of the most popular destinations. Airport Park offers 64.5 acres on Colchester Point Road. There you’ll find a 1.3-mile jogging/x-country ski trail, 4 ball fields, 2 soccer fields, sand volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, tennis courts, basketball court, and a lighted ice rink in the winter. Parking, restrooms, a picnic area, pavilion, and playground make Airport Park a convenient day trip.

Fort Ethan Allen Parade Grounds Park is on 19 acres owned jointly between Colchester and the Town of Essex. It is a multi-use area between Route 15 and Dalton Drive, offering tennis, soccer, walking trails, and more. Other Colchester parks include Sunny Hollow Natural Area, Porter Natural Area, Rossetti Natural Area & Beach, Bonanza Park, and Valley Field Park.

COLCHESTER EVENTS

The Causeway Race, Colchester Triathlon, “Muck It Up” Outdoor Challenge, annual 4th of July celebration, Winter Carnival, and Summer Concert Series are a few favorite local events. Lake Champlain Mallets Bay Pond Hockey Classic is a new must-experience. The event brings teams from across the U.S. to Malletts Bay for a multi-level, multi-age series of games from the highly competitive to the “just for fun.” Pond Hockey has become one of Vermont’s most anticipated winter sports, from backyards to organized large-scale championships – Malletts Bay in Colchester is the perfect venue.
