Lake Champlain in and around the Burlington area is stunning. There are lakefront parks and beaches to swim and enjoy the water. The views are terrific since the Adirondacks In NY are direct across the lake. Burlington has a waterfront bike path that extends north through Colchester and in the summer a bike ferry will take bikers across a small lake inlet to South Hero to bike the Champlain Islands. The Burlington waterfront is vibrant with a boardwalk, restaurants, Echo - a science and nature museum, and marinas.
As a site of natural beauty, Lake Champlain is unparalleled. In the Fall, when the leaves of the trees in the Adirondacks change color, the foliage that was brilliant green in the Summer is suddenly seen to dance in its myriad hues of red and yellow on the rippling surface of the lake. The autumn breezes animating both the leaves themselves and the undulations of the water which reflect them bring the whole of the scene to vivid perfection.
